Hello friends, welcome back to Muting and the Mouse! We continue to escape into the magic this week from all over the world as we dive into another restaurant review. Disney is known for food as we have discussed before. This restaurant is not known for its food, but for it’s drinks. Pack your bags as we head to a galaxy far, far away. Okay maybe not that far away. It is found at Hollywood Studios. As you are taking in the wonder that is Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, make sure you make it a point to check out the best cantina in the galaxy. Oga’s Cantina will have you escape into that Star Wars magic. The restaurant is themed so well, has some fun drinks, interesting snacks (maybe pass on these), and the best droid DJ that you will ever meet. The atmosphere is one that you can feel as you walk into the cantina. You swear you might have been there based on how some of the cantinas are portrayed in the movies. Everyone is gathered in and there is very little space for sitting, most is standing room. If you are lucky enough to get a seat, take it all in. If you are not, still take it all in! The cantina atmosphere makes you feel like you are in the heart of the action with the DJ playing in the background with the servers making drinks and peculiar sights and sounds happening all around the cantina. Let’s dive more into the restaurant as we see some of the theming and some of the drinks we tried. Now, we were able to go back in 2019. With some of the changes due to Covid, stay tuned as we will be updating you all on some of the new protocols later this year. The menu has not changed and we are very excited to get some of our favorites and try some new ones on our next visit.
OGA’S CANTINA THEME
As you enter into the cantina, there is an atmosphere that has you tapping your feet as you are walking in. The music fills the air and from the moment you walk in, you are introduced to the galaxy’s favorite, DJ R-3X. The music is catchy and you might hear some of your favorite tunes that fill the air. Everyone’s favorite cantina band meets a remix and you feel like Han and Greedo might get into a tussle. Remember to enjoy the drinks but don’t keep your head down. The bar has some fun features, so keep looking around. The wires fill the ceilings and you see some tanks that are filled with exotic Star Wars creatures and you cannot help but feel immersed in the action. All of the decor is spot on and you feel like you really are right there in a Star Wars Movie. Seating in here is limited and you will want to make sure you get a reservation. The seating can have you grouped with others (pre-covid) and that adds to the fun. We will be updating this once we have a chance to experience it again, but it does seem this has changed. No matter what the seating arrangement has in store, this will not add or subtract from the experience. They also have a two drink limit and a time limit when in the cantina. This is to get as many guests in to experience the fun as they can. We were just above the time limit and enjoyed two drinks each. The time limit is nothing to worry about as I do not think they really police it too hard. They do bring the check once you have had the second drink brought to your table so they can start the check out process. The experience and theme went smoothly so do not worry about the time limit.
THE DRINKS
Oga’s Cantina has drinks for kids and adults alike, so you can enjoy the cantina as a family. The menu is shown here to show you all of the drinks they have to offer.
The drinks are all themed well to fit in with the Star Wars Universe. Whether your favorite animal is featured or your favorite planet, you will be sure to find something you enjoy. Some of the drinks have fun features to them that add to the novelty of the drinks. We each enjoyed two of the drinks and shared with each other so we could try all four.
The first one we tried was the Jet Juice. Photo is above and consists of Maker’s Mark Bourbon, Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur, Cedilla Açaí Liqueur, White Grape Juice, and Lemon Juice. This one was delicious and to me was one of my favorites I had that day. The drink was not too strong and I really enjoyed it.
Next was the Fuzzy Tauntaun. This drink was my second favorite drink we tried that day. The fun name, the specialty drink, and the extremely weird but fun sensation from the foam made the drink come alive. This drink consisted of Cîroc Peach Vodka, Bols Peach Schnapps, Simply® Orange with Tangerine, Pure Cane Sugar, and “Buzz Button Tingling” Foam. The drink was very sweet, yet refreshing with the tingling foam that makes your lips feel a slight numbing sensation. This is so weird but oddly satisfying and has me wanting to try it again. Make sure you give this one a try, it will have you talking about it in one way or another.
Our next round of drinks included the Bespin Fizz. The drink consists of Bacardí Superior Rum, Yuzu Purée, Pomegranate Juice, White Cranberry Juice, and a Cloud Swirl. This drink was super fun for the cloud swirl that is all around the drink. The drink was delicious and has a fun feature that brought this drink over the top. There was dry ice in the bottom of the separated glass that made it smoke and have that cloud look. The drink was refreshing and fun and I would recommend it.
Finally, we decided to try a provision with alcohol. It is called the Rodian Ration. This was in a petri dish and consisted of Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Dekuyper Pucker Sour Apple, Green Apple, Sprite®, and Boba Balls. It reminded me of a jello with boba balls included. The ultimate jello shot if you will. This was an interesting experience but also very good. I would recommend the drinks before this one but it was fun to try. After all, you are in another galaxy after all.
THE FOOD
Oga’s Cantina is not really known for the food options, but they do have a couple to choose from. The options are more like appetizers rather than actual entrees so make sure you don’t come hungry. There are only two options and both are very exotic. If you are not one to want to try new things, maybe pass. I will say, Disney did a great job of making food to really fit the exotic Star Wars type, but maybe something more simple might have been a better play. First up, we tried the Batuu Bits.
The Batuu Bits were made up of Crispy Galaxy Snack Bits with Spiced Chermoula Dip. The snack bits had some dried veggies and chips in them and were pretty good. The dip was kind of like a salsa. This dish was not something I would seek out again, but they were not bad to snack on. Worth a try if you ask me. Next up was their version of the charcuterie board.
This is called the Happabore Sampler which included Cured and Roasted Meats, Cheese, Pork Cracklings. This one was pretty exocic. I would not recommend this one. The meats and cheeses were not that good and I am not a fan of the pork cracklins myself. I do realize some people may like this, but it was not for me. I am glad we tried it, as it was fun to partake in the fun of the land, but next time we will pass on this.
Overall, we really liked Oga’s Cantina. The Cantina vibe is everything here. The drinks are fun and delicious. We cannot wait to visit again on our next trip to Batuu and I am really excited to try some of the other drinks and dance with my favorite DJ droid R-3X. Disney hit this one out of the park. In my opinion the theme and the detail of the cantina is what makes this a must try when visiting Batuu. Have you been to Batuu? Were you able to duck into Oga’s Cantina for a drink? Let us know in the comments below what you liked or did not like.
That is all for this week friends, until next time, escape into the magic, no matter how far!
