What I like to Pack for A Disney Vacation: How To Pack for a May Trip

Welcome friends to another edition of Muting and The Mouse. We are going to continue to escape into the magic this week before we hit a week off as we enjoy a special week with the mouse himself. Prepping for a Disney Vacation always has me excited and I am sure you get excited too when planning to visit the Walt Disney World Resort. I spend way too much time thinking about the trip in the week before. This “how to” if you will hopefully will help in your packing preparation as you prepare to enter into the magic of Disney from right there at Disney itself. Now this post will be my opinion and MY how to pack/what I like to pack. By no means is this the list you have to go by- bring what works best for you. I hope that this post will be interactive as we all have tips and tricks we stick to when packing for a trip to the most magical place on earth! So if you are a person like me who has some trips under his belt, or someone who is packing for a trip for the first time, share what you think works with others so we can all help each other enter into the magic, no matter how far. For now, let’s dive into what the Muting’s have been doing in preparation for their 1st anniversary/honeymoon/just because Disney vacation!

CHECK THE WEATHER

Florida weather, the most unpredictable rain schedule I have ever met. I like to operate on the assumption that it will most likely rain for at least an hour each day. With that, just be prepared. For me, I like to pack a poncho. If you forget one, they do have them for sale at the parks, but if you could save money by remembering to pack one, that will be an easy way to save some money on the trip. Another thing I personally like to do in regards to the rain, is bring extra socks. They do not take that much room and you can carry them with you in the parks with ease. I hate wet socks and shoes so this is why I take some extra socks to change out of so the park will be more enjoyable for me. With the weather, always be checking the seasonal averages but the week before, check all the time. The weather can change so easily wherever you vacation too so remember to be prepared by checking. For us, the week we are planning to be down there it will be between 82 degrees to 91 degrees during the day and anywhere from 62 degrees to 70 degrees at night. This makes it a little easier to pack for the trip as you can really pack clothes you will like to wear and be okay both day and night. If the weather is colder at night, it is always a good idea to pack a light jacket or sweatshirt/hoodie to have at your disposal to keep warm.

What we bring to bring to the parks each day

Now that you have packed some things to wear to the parks, what should you bring to the park. Well, this will change based on what your needs are as a couple, family, group, etc. For us, we will take a look at what Abby and I usually bring to the parks for each day. This is a good base for adults and then based on what your kids will need, you can go from there. I am not going to pretend I know what those items are, so let’s start with the base items we bring. Abby and I usually bring a backpack of sorts each day we go to the park. The park days can be long and we like to be there as long as we can, so we need some things throughout the day. We start off with empty refillable water bottles. We fill up once in the park and this is a nice way to make sure you are hydrated throughout the long day that is ahead. So far, we have packed some water bottles in the luggage and the backpacks will be our carry on for the plane. In the carry on and for us to use at the parks we bring a portable phone charger, the charging cord, our wall chargers and any other chargers we will need to keep our devices and electronics charged up. Abby usually packs a smaller travel makeup kit to keep in the backpack for the parks as well. We also make sure to pack some Excedrin and Advil to have in case we needed that throughout the day. Kleenex is another thing we have packed in the past as well.  This year we will be adding extra masks for each day, hand sanitizer, and wipes to ensure we are taking our precautions. Some of this is overlap for all and I hope it gives you a good idea of things to pack for the parks.

Toiletries

This is one that should not be overlooked. It is the basic for when you pack things but staying at the hotels, you will get shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, bodywash and the towels so you will not NEED to bring those. If you want to bring your own you always can. Make sure you bring that travel toothpaste, extra toothbrushes, deodorant, any medication you might need, and anything in between. This can be done as the last thing unless you cannot resist the Target travel sized items and just pack a bag to throw into the suitcase like I am tempted to. If you do forget things, all of the resorts sell them in the gift shop but this is an easy thing to be sure to remember. The last thing you need to make sure you remember to pack is sunscreen! The sun is hot and the rays can be tough, so bring the protections against the sun!

Magic Bands and Ears

Do not forget the Magic Bands. I repeat… DO NOT FORGET THE MAGIC BANDS. These are your tickets and way to get into the parks so always remember to throw them in your carry on bags. I like to have them with me to ensure that nothing happens to them. If you want to bring your Mickey/Minnie ears, by all means bring them. These are things we always make sure we pack to make the trip more special. Abby and I like to plan our magic bands and outfits and I am sure that Abby likes to play around with the Mickey and Minnie Ear combinations. It can add some fun to the packing and outfits you choose to wear.

This is a basic trip for us. We always make sure we have everything and make many lists to ensure that we have everything we need.
