Restaurant Review: Teppan Edo

Hey friends, hope the week went well and welcome back to Muting and The Mouse. We continue to recap our early-May trip with a dive into some food! I mean, when on vacation, you sort of plan around food. Disney Vacations can be surrounded by food on the fly, planned sit downs, or spur of the moment dining decisions. We have talked about a lot of dining options here on Muting and The Mouse so you can already tell, I am a Disney foodie. This post we are going to get into an Epcot Pavilion dining review. Epcot has so many food options and it can be hard to decide which one to go to. Well, hopefully this review of Teppan Edo will help. The restaurant is located in the World Showcase in the Japan Pavilion. The entrance is super cool as you walk up a giant staircase into the restaurant and you are greeted by the nicest staff. This is a hibachi style restaurant and the food is cooked right in front of you. You are seated with another party as they try to seat as many at a grill as possible. This was nicely done during the time of Covid-19 as they had dividers between parties sitting at the tables. We are going to talk about the experience later, but one quick story on why this is one of my favorite restaurants. The experience here is always a treat.

I have been here a couple of times and let me tell you, it is more of an experience than just a dinner. I have a really funny story with Teppan Edo and it is why I wanted to go back and enjoy the atmosphere. A while back, we had vacationed with some super close family friends (basically family) and we had dining reservations here at Teppan Edo. My sister was so mad because she did not like or want the menu options. She was so mad and sad the entire dinner. She decided to get chicken and then the show of the dining experience started and she started to enjoy the atmosphere. My sister then wanted to try our steak and other dinner options and she loved it all. It is fun to think back on the experience and poke fun at my sister that she should have just ordered the steak. Disney dining can provide so many experiences and memories, and this is why we decided to make a reservation here. Abby had never been and I wanted to have her experience it, so without further ado, let’s dive into our experience at Teppan Edo.

Dinner Experience and Food

Once we were seated it was time to take a look at the menu. We decided to start with some drinks since we were there celebrating our one year anniversary. I had ordered the Momo Whiskey Sour which consisted of Perfect Harmony of Whiskey, Peach Schnapps, and Sour Mi. It was a really nice drink for someone who likes whiskey. See above pictures. Abby had ordered the Tokyo Sunset which consisted of Coconut Rum, Crème de Banana, Peach Schnapps, and Pineapple Juice. Both drinks were delicious and we would recommend if you are of age to get the cocktails to enjoy during the show that was about to begin. It was time to order dinner and Abby had decided to go with the Chicken and Steak combination plate. It was called the Nihonbashi and it came with steak and chicken served with Sunomono Salad, Vegetables, Udon noodles and Steamed White rice. I decided to go with the steak and scallops plate. It was called the Tsukiji and it consisted of scallops and steak served with Sunomono Salad, Vegetables, Udon noodles and Steamed White rice. The waitress took our order and before we knew it, our chef came out with his cart of ingredients and introduced himself. Our chef’s name was Prince and he confirmed our orders with each of us at the table. From there the grill was turned on and the show was about to start. If you have ever had hibachi you know, the show is what it is all about. He started by putting some veggies on the grill and at this time, our Sunomono Salads came out. See below picture.

This consisted of cucumbers soaked in some vinegar and soy sauce with some seaweed. This salad was really fresh and was pretty good. Try it, you just might like it.

As we were eating, the veggies started to cook. Prince was doing all the tricks, tossing his utensils high in the hair and bangning them on the grill to create more fun. He had cut the onions up and started to make them in the shape of a volcano. He then poured in some oil and the onion started to steam. Prince joked that the train was leaving the station as he moved it across the grill saying “choo chooo”. The fun had begun and more and more veggies were being added to the grill. As the veggies cooked, we started to notice he was making a person out of them. As it took form, he had made a veggie Mickey Mouse! How fun is that, the magic of Disney and Mickey right there at a hibachi restaurant. It made for a fun experience and photo so please enjoy them below.

Soon after, he added the udon noodles for the salad and that started to take form. Prince started to add the food to the grill and the steak and chicken started to cook. As that was happening, he served each of us the udon noodles and let me tell you, it was so good. Fresh and hot, the flavor was strong and it was one of my favorite things to eat at this dinner. HIghly recommend this, even for the picky eaters.

As the main courses cooked, he continued to make jokes and do tricks which all adds to the fun. The food was finally done and Abby and I could not wait to dig in. The steak was cooked perfectly and was so tender. The chicken was so flavorful and cooked well as well. Now, Abby could not try the Scallops as she thinks she is allergic, so this was cooked last so as to not contaminate her food. Disney does a really good job with that. The scallops however were outstanding. They were cooked perfectly and did not have a huge fish smell. The flavor was spot on and some of the better scallops I have had. Final plates are below. Also photographed are the sauces they gave us. There was ginger sauce and their yum yum sauce. Both were good, but that yum yum sauce was next level.

The food was so good and the experience was even better. The show and the dinner did not disappoint. As the checks came, the staff brought out some soft serve ice cream with a candle in it for our anniversary. It was so nice and tasted good. They also gave us some origami in the shape of a heart! How cool of them to really immerse us into the culture and celebrate with something that is so organic and symbolic.

As we left, we could not imagine spending time at any other dinner for our anniversary. The food was so good and we even got a show to go with it. The experience we will always remember and talk about. Hibachi is such a fun time regardless of where you are, but at Disney it seems more magical. It was a perfect dinner for our celebration! In closing, this is a dining experience that I highly recommend. I would say this is a must try if you are looking for something to eat at Epcot. If you like Japanese hibachi or not, you can find something to eat on this menu and it will be delicious. Have you ever tried Teppan Edo? Let us know in the comments below if you have been to Teppan Edo and share what your favorite part of the experience is. Hope you have the chance to try it if you have not, you will not be disappointed. Disney has a special way to bring people together. It is fun to see suggestions from others and that is why I started this blog. So until next time; stay safe, stay magical, and continue to escape into the magic, no matter how far!
