Flower and Garden Fab Five Things We Had

Welcome back again my friends to Muting and The Mouse. I hope you have come hungry because ahead we are going to escape into the magic of Disney food once again. Disney does a really nice job of giving you so many food options all around you. They even have festivals to commemorate food around the countries in Epcot. This is a fun time of year. Well, all year round lately. The food options are in addition to the normal food they have in the park. Some of the options are from the same countries and some are from different, festival-specific countries. But, all of the booths add a fun atmosphere and festival feel around the park. When we were in Disney during our last trip in May we were lucky to hit up the Flower and Garden Festival. This is a fun festival that revolves around the gardening and flowers of our world. Disney does a really nice job of planting around Epcot and including the flowers in art and food around the fest. Not to mention the really stunning topiaries around the park. Disney goes all out in bringing all of your favorite characters to life in plant form. It is fun to see them around the park and take pictures of the beautiful work. After you see the stunning planters and topiaries, you can’t help but smell all of the good food around you. Abby and I tried so many things and even though the festival is over and it is time for the next festival, I have to tell you the 5 best things we had at the fest! So sit back and relax, hopefully you are not already hungry because this will just make your stomach growl more! It is time to escape into the magic, no matter how far you are as I share my Fab Five items we tried at the Flower and Garden Festival in May.

5. Bon Bon Chicken Skewer with Peanut Sauce

This one was a top try at the festival for me. We were able to try this one at the Lotus House stand that is located outside China. I like most things with a nice peanut sauce or flavor. This was a pretty big portion and we were able to share it and it was enough to split for sure. The price for the skewer was $6.75 and I would say it was with it. The flavors were good and the chicken was tender. A really nice festival food item on a stick.

4. Potato Pancake with Caramelized Ham and Onions

Next on the list we found the Bauernmarkt: Farmers Market in the Germany Pavilion. This stand is always a festival favorite for the beers and wines, but the potato pancake was top notch for us. Now, I know, it is not that complex and can sit under a warmer which hinders the textures- but ours was fresh. The pancake was crisp and the onions and ham were a really nice touch. Flavors were strong and it was a nice snack to quickly eat during the fest. This was $4.75 and worth it.

3. Blood Orange Sour with Fresh Mint

Coming in at number three, we head to quench some thirst. We found this drink in Japan and the Hanami stand. The drink intrigued me as I was tasked to try something at each country on this trip. The blood orange sour drink with mint was really refreshing. I am not entirely sure what exactly it was, but it tasted like cider with mint. The drink really was a surprising find that I had stumbled on and I would get it again for sure. It was a nice find for $7.50, but at that price, I feel it could be a bit cheaper. Overall, a really enjoyable drink.

2. Beef Brisket Burnt Ends and Pulled Pork Belly Slider

Number two on the highly anticipated list (okay maybe not) is the Beef Brisket Slider we tried from the Festival Favorites booth in the World Showplace Pavilion. This was a great location because it was in the air conditioning. We really wanted to try this one and it did not disappoint.  This slider had beef brisket burnt ends, smoked pork belly, chorizo, cheddar fondue, and was topped with a spicy house made pickle. We really enjoyed this but it was tried a couple of times and the sliders get made with different portions it seems. The price was $7.50 and might be just a tad high, but it was delicious.

1. Corned Beef Brisket Hash (and company)

The moment you have all been waiting for! Number one could have been any of the three above but, I wanted to give the list more variety. The winner was the Corned Beef Brisket Hash. All three did not disappoint. Above you see the fried cinnamon roll bites which were really good. $4.25 for them and I would get them again. Next you see the beautiful Avocado Toast. The price was $5.75 and as far as avocado toast goes, the price was fair and it was delicious. But let’s get to the main event. Actual number one was the showstopper for me. The corned beef brisket hash had onions, peppers, cheese curds, and a soft poach egg all atop the hash and potato barrels(tater tots). There were so many flavors that just exploded in the dish and the $6.75 price for this one was well worth the price. We kept talking about how good it was and we would get this one every time.

Food is all around us, and Disney does it well. The fest really create a lot of hype and there are so many things to try. Abby and I look at the menus and really try to see what we would like to try before we go. We try not to eat at Epcot other than the fest so we can really enjoy the booths and the new items they come out with. Have you been to Flower and Garden before? What was something you liked most? Let us know in the comments below and continue to escape into the magic, no matter how far!

  1. Two of the dishes you listed were my favorites as well! I absolutely loved the Bon Bon Chicken Skewer. I knew they used chicken thighs but I still couldn’t believe just how tender the chicken was. The flavor was so bold. A lot of times when you get chicken on a stick it tends to be dried out the flavor just isn’t there. I literally said, “Oh my God! This tastes like a high end chicken dish I would get at sit down Asian restaurant.” So, so good. I hope they bring this one back.

The Beef Brisket Burnt Ends and Pulled Pork Belly Slider has been a favorite of mine from the past so I was thrilled to see this one brought back. I’m with you in thinking the price is a tad high.

One of my other favorite items from this year was the Fruit Loops Milkshake. Do I even need to explain why? Combine the sweet and sugary flavor of Fruit Loops with a cold and refreshing milkshake and you’ve got a winner!

And one final go to for me is the Macaron au Chocolate en Sucette. I am not usually a big sweets person (I say after talking about a Fruit Loops Milkshake and giant macaron on a stick), but I am a suck for macarons. I love the crisp edges of the macaron and the semi-chewy center. The addition of the crispy pearls gives it a nice additional texture that elevates this fancy cookie even further.
