Disney Dining Review: Space 220 Restaurant

Welcome back again readers to this edition of Disney Dining reviews. This dining review truly takes us out of this world. Okay, I mean come on, I had to make at least one space joke. This dining review almost did not happen as it is very tough to make reservations but by the luck of the draw, we were able to get one for lunch. Space 220 restaurant opened up in 2021 in Epcot right next to the ride Mission Space. As you can imagine, this one would be space themed and was highly anticipated. I was looking forward to this one because I do like NASA and space a lot. So lets get ready to lift off on this edition of Disney Dining!

Overview and Arrival

Starting off, we find ourselves headed over to Mission Space and just off to the right is the restaurant check in. As you follow it up you will see menu’s and cast members who are there to help you get in the walk up line or let you know where to go to check in. Space 220 has a pre-fixed menu for lunch and dinner. This means you can choose an appetizer and entree for lunch or an appetizer, entree, and dessert for dinner. The prices of the lunch are $55 and for dinner $79. There is much debate over the pricing but for lunch I felt like it was a better deal.

Once you check in, you are told to follow around the curve and head into the lobby area. Here is where you get ready for the next steps. When you get in, you are welcomed to lounge in the lobby until they call your name. Once they call your name you are handed a ticket. This ticket is your piece of the puzzle to get to the restaurant. You are then guided to an elevator and this is where the magic happens. You are transported all the way up to the Centauri Space Station for your meal. Inside the dining area of the restaurant there are daytime and nighttime simulated views of Earth from 220 miles up in the Centauri Space Station. This is truly magical if you ask me. The elevator ride up is a little bit of a simulation but do not fear, if you get motion sick, just do not look up or down at the windows.

It does not last a long time at all. It is so scenic and fun to see Florida as you race up to the space station. Once you get off the elevator, the theming begins. You see the space plants and vegetables being grown and you can tell big things are around the corner. As you are guided to your seat, take it in. The view of Earth is amazing. Not much else to say! We had a great seat if you ask me. We were sat on the upper level along the guard rail. This was really cool to have this seat because you could see all of the windows across the back of the station. Most people think it would be best to sit next to a window but if you are there, you only see that window. The fun is seeing all of them as there are different scenes you can see. Once we took some photos and got settled, it was time to order.

Our Orders

We started off with some drinks. I ordered The Nebula. This was their take on the Old Fashion and consisted of Maker’s Mark, Pineapple, Honey, Passion Fruit, Angostura Bitters, Moon Dust. If you like Old Fashions, this is one you would like. I would for sure order this one again. Abby ordered the kids non-alcoholic option. The drink she chose was The Moon Rocks. This was Coconut, Blue Cotton Candy Syrup, Lemonade, Moon Dust, and Moon Rocks and includes a pack of Space 220 collectible trading cards. The moon rocks were Pop Rocks and were super fun to add into the drink. It was sweet, but the sip I had tasted good. A fun alternative to a fun drink without the spirits that adults can enjoy.

It was time to order and we knew what we wanted. We each got to choose an appetizer and I chose the Starry Calamari. This was your typical fried calamari with Italian Cherry Peppers. The sauces were Spicy Marinara, Roasted Pepper Citrus Aioli. The calamari was cooked very well and paired best with the Aioli. No complaints from me on the calamari and I would order that again in a heartbeat. Abby ordered the Blue Moon Cauliflower. This was Tempura Fried Cauliflower, Housemade Hot Sauce, and Blue Cheese Dust. Simpler terms, it was buffalo fried cauliflower. These were really good as well. It was a giant portion with really big cauliflower. Abby really enjoyed these as did I.

Our main course options were simple. We had figured those out early on in the process. I decided to go with the Flat Iron Steak. This dish featured Coffee Space Rub, Smashed Fingerling Potatoes, Cabernet Butter, Haricot Vert. Now my potatoes were not smashed, but I did that myself. This was pretty good. The flavor of everything was outstanding, however my steak was a little tough. Overall, a pretty good dish I would get again. It was cooked perfect to my liking but the toughness was still there. Abby ordered the Roasted Free-range Chicken. She has a seafood allergy that we marked so we did notice it was served differently than most pictures of it show. It consisted of a roasted chicken breast Mashed Potatoes, Brussels Sprouts, Roasted Garlic Thyme Jus. The chicken is typically served in roulade form for reference. The dish was very good, the star was the crispness of the chicken and the mashed potatoes. I think we were both shocked by how good it was. After we finished eating we took some more time to take in the sights of the Earth in the windows and payed the bill. The views were so fun we took our sweet time and enjoyed. See some of them below.

Overall, this was a very nice lunch. I was pleased with the options of food and the quality of the food. I will be honest, the atmosphere is what makes it here so if you are looking for a one of a kind, out of this world experience…check it out! Have you seen this new restaurant? Do you want to try it? Have you tried it? Let us know your thoughts and remember, escape into the magic, no matter how far!
