Restaurant Review: The Biergarten Restaurant

Welcome back readers to Muting and the Mouse! I hope you have enjoyed us so far as we continue to escape into the magic, no matter how far. This post we will hit up another review of a restaurant at Disney World. This restaurant we will find in Epcot at the World Showcase. There are many restaurants around the showcase that are native to the pavilions around the park, and this one is loads of fun. Something Abby and I have sworn to do is try all of the restaurants around the World Showcase at Epcot together. This one is one we had both been to in the past but we really wanted to go together. The Biergarten is located in the Germany Pavilion in Epcot and it really does not disappoint. If you like German food and atmosphere, you are going to like the restaurant. This one is typically a buffet, but due to Covid-19, they switched it to family style.  I think it was still good as a family style restaurant, but not my favorite. I did enjoy it much more as a buffet, but the food was still good. The buffet just was a better value because you could really get the things you wanted instead of a whole platter of things you might not want. Now you could have asked for some of one thing or another, but it just was not the same. Overall, this was a really fun lunch and the atmosphere was even better. So let’s dive into the review of what we had at the Biergarten Restaurant!

We had a lunch reservation booked at the Biergarten. This restaurant you can walk up to, but it is always best to make a reservation if you know you want to dine here. This was a nice reservation to have in the late lunch hour as we were able to escape the hot heat with a lunch in the air conditioning. The restaurant lobby is pretty cool. The theming puts you right into Germany as you take in the art and architecture of the building. As you enter the biergarten, you are entering an Oktoberfest celebration in a Bavarian Village. As you enter, you are typically sat at long tables and with other parties, but during Covid-19 that is not the case. You are sitting at your own table as you take in the Bavarian decor. As you start to order, the menu and drink options transport you into Germany. We had ordered some drinks to start and we did so in typical German style. I had ordered a liter of Beck’s Pilsner beer and it was a good beer to have during lunch. Abby ordered the half liter of the Schöfferhofer Pink Grapefruit Hefeweizen beer. This was another good beer to try. The pilsner was a classic german beer that had a clean refreshing finish and I recommend it to anyone who likes a basic beer. The Grapefruit Hefeweizen beer is tangy yet refreshing with notes of sweetness not typically found with grapefruit beers. Both were delicious and fun to have to toast when given the chance.

Now to the food! The first course comes out and is served family style right now. The first course consists of pretzel rolls with brown mustard and regular mustard. They also give you some butter for the rolls as well. This is a great bread service because who doesn’t love a pretzel roll. From there, the family style salads come out. They bring out a platter of potato salad, macaroni salad, and a cucumber/tomato salad. These were all very good. You can ask for as many as you want as it is family style. We asked for a second platter because they were delicious.

After that, your waiter or waitress asks if you want the main course to come out. The main course has a variety of options and is brought on a silver platter and side plate. When that is brought out, the waiter/waitress will let you know what everything is. On the platter you will find; Bratwurst, Regensberger, Roast Chicken, Franks, Nudel Gratin, Schnitzel, Sauerkraut, Frikadellen, Spätzle, Green Beans, Warm Potato Salad, Hunter Sauce, and Red Cabbage. I tried them all as you kinda feel compelled since they are on the table. Everything was good if you ask me. I love german food so the trip around the platter was very good. With that being said, I did have some favorites and some that I did not like so much. A couple of my favorites included the schnitzel, the nudel gratin, the red cabbage and the bratwurst. A couple things I did not care for were the Ragensberger and the franks. To me, both did not have that much flavor and I have had better at other German Restaurants. Now, don’t get me wrong, they were good but just not the best. The wildcard was the Frikadellen. These were German Meatballs in a sauce and they were pretty good. This is where I do feel compelled to tell you- this is where I would rather have the buffet. Some things you want to eat and some things you do not. We did have to end up getting a second platter but did not eat all of the things on it. The platters are pre fixed and they bring the platters to the table. In a buffet if you want just more schnitzel you can get that, but here it came on the whole platter. All in all, the food was good, and I enjoyed the variety of German food you received. Now, it was time for dessert.

Dessert was on its way after the waiter/waitress asked if we were finished with the main course, and then it was time to indulge in some German sweets. The platter of desserts consisted of Apple Strudel with Vanilla Sauce, Cookies, a Black Forest Roll Cake, and Cheesecake with Berry Compote. These were all good, but I could have gone without the cookies. The chocolate chip cookies are there just to add something everyone will like. The strudel was good and the compote added a nice flavor to it. I did like the cheesecake a lot as well. It was nice to try a variety of the desserts and if you wanted more, you could ask for more as well. Dinner and dessert were both very good, now it is time to talk about the live entertainment that accompanied dinner.

PROST! It’s time to talk about the cheer and delight that fills the air in the Biergarten. There is a real live German Band that plays at certain times during dinner. They teach you German toasts and play all of the german music throughout the hour they play. It is fun to hear the bells, the horns, the xylophone, and cheerful singing. It is so fun that you find yourself swaying and singing along to the toasts. After all, it is always a good time to yell, PROST. To me, this makes the dinner so much fun. The music and atmosphere it creates is what makes this dining option worth it.

That does it for the review. Each part really was fun and the food was delicious. To me, it was better as a buffet, but the family style option was pretty good as well. I always enjoy this dining option in Epcot and recommend it if you like German food and the German biergarten atmosphere. This is a flat prepaid fee for dinner but it is worth it for the amount of food you get. You also get a heck of an experience, so to me the price is worth it. Have you been to the Biergarten Restaurant? If you have, share your experience with us below! Until we meet again readers, escape into the magic, no matter how far!

  1. Love, Love, Love Biergarten and the entire German pavilion! I’m with you and definitely miss the help yourself buffet aspect. Missed having the beer cheese soup from the buffet the last time we went. Who doesn’t want unlimited beer cheese soup and pretzel rolls?!?! My hubby loves the schnitzel and was disappointed the new table service didn’t offer the brown gravy. The charcuterie items you can find at the buffet were also missed! The Frikadellen are my favorite from the buffet so I was happy they made the cut for the table platters! Hoping that someday soon we go back to the old ways.
