Top Five Walt Disney Animation Studios Films

Welcome back friends to Muting and the Mouse, where we escape into the magic, no matter how far. This week we are going to keep it short and sweet but hopefully spark some discussion among all of you guys. I mean come on, a shortened holiday week needs to end with some discussion on Disney after all. The topic is Disney Movies. That is how we are going to escape into the magic this week. I know I enjoy turning on Disney Plus and just diving into the plethora of movies you can watch. Between the movies and the shows you could spend hours there. Well, it got me thinking and here we are finally doing a post about what are my top five Disney Movies. Let me start by saying, these are Disney movies that are distributed by the Walt Disney Animation Studios. We will not include Pixar, Lucasfilm, or Marvel in this post but look out for future posts on those studios. Ever since I was a child, I can remember watching these films and had (still have) the VHS tapes. My mother keeps everything and you better believe we still have most of the movies in boxes in their basement. As a child, you have your favorites and over time, some stay the same and some move into honorable mentions when compiling a top five list. I have a mix of both and I think you will find them all pretty good. Now, let’s all be friends, no one has the right answers on which Disney Movies are the best. Now, mine might be the best list…haha just kidding, I do want to hear what your favorite Disney Movies are. Please share in the comments below! Let’s all be friends and share our favorites and then I will respond and tell you why that list is wrong. JUST KIDDING! In all honesty, that is something I hope to avoid. Just have fun with the lists and please do not take this following list of Disney Movies as truth. I am just a fan who has a list of Disney Movies and wants to spark conversation amongst the readers. This was a hard list to compile and it has some you would expect on there; but I did not go for the easy list. Mine will probably spark some eyebrow raises or “how can you not rank this in your top five” but that is the magic of Disney! Everyone is touched by Disney in a different way and that is fun to see. So without further blabbering on, here is my top five Walt Disney Animation Studios Movie List.

5. The Jungle Book

Disney’s The Jungle Book is a classic. The songs are fun to sing and dance too and that is why it is one of my favorites. When I was a kid, I will never forget my Papa told me it was one of his favorites and we would sing the whole movie. For me the music is why I love the Jungle Book.

4. Beauty and The Beast

I mean what can I say but “Tale as old as time”. A great story with a fun villain that has a cool song. The music and the animated ballroom has this in the top five based on that. This is a classic, Disney, 1990s film that is beyond its time.

3. Wreck It Ralph

Number three might take you by surprise but “I can fix it” as is said in the movie. The storyline is perfect and shows that even though you might have flaws, that is no reason to leave anyone out. The message is what has this one landing in at number three.

2. The Lion King

“Hakunaa Matataa” It means no worries! This one tops many Disney fan’s lists, but let me say this- it was hard not to put it there. The music and the animation of the animals is top notch. The likeness of the animal’s movements really is life-like and you can see they studied the animals.

1.The Great Mouse Detective

My all time favorite is Great Mouse Detective. I love the villain Professor Ratigan and his songs. As a child, I would sing it over and over. I was also drawn to mysteries so you give me a Sherlock Holmes like Disney movie and I am in the best of both worlds.

This is my top five list of Disney Movies produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. These are all very good movies and to me, the animation, the songs, and the story is what makes the movie. All of these fit the model to me and I stand by it. Feel free to share your favorites below and share your Disney Side with us all! Hope you enjoyed my list and it sparks friendly conversation. These are always tough lists to read as most just have the cookie cutter answers but not me, I like to escape into the magic on the edge. Share yours and until next time, escape into the magic, no matter how far!

  1. Soooooo hard to make this list! At the moment (because I’ve literally changed my mind 15 times already!) I’d say…

    1. Hercules – One of the best soundtracks ever! James Woods as Hades is one of my favorite villains ever. The soundtrack is amazing. Love the humor throughout the entire movie. Have I mentioned the soundtrack?!?! The Muses are fantastic!
    2. Wreck It Ralph – It’s hysterical…I absolutely love all of the video game references especially the old school ones. The characters are perfect as is the storyline. Definitely has something for everyone.
    3. Moana – Another amazing soundtrack and another great storyline. And the movie is just gorgeous to watch! I feel like I’m at the Polynesian Village every time I watch it.
    4. The Princess And The Frog – Can you see that I’m obsessed with great Disney music??? I love the story of Tiana and her use of hard work to achieve her dreams instead of having everything handed to her. The back-up characters are great too…love Ray and Louis!
    5. Oliver & Company – One of my absolute favorite movies as a child, but one that literally causes me to cry the entire time I watch it as an adult! Love Billy Joel on both the soundtrack and as the voice of Dodger. Still have a stuffed Dodger on my bed now.

So, so, so hard to leave Aladdin off of my list because Robin Williams as Genie is absolute perfection!

Love your list, but I think I am the only person who is not a huge fan of The Lion King! Maybe because it was always too much of a tearjerker for me 😦 I’m the first to admit that I’m a big baby when it comes to watching Disney movies. And The Great Mouse Detective doesn’t get enough love anymore! A lot of kids today (boy, do I sound old!) don’t even know what The Great Mouse Detective is which is a tragedy!
