Fab Five Disney World Mountains

Hello everyone and welcome back to another Muting and The Mouse. I hope everyone had a safe week and is ready to escape into the magic of Disney once again. Disney is one for amazing theming throughout the park. Something that is really fun is the different shapes and architecture you find throughout the lands. Disney does a great job making you really feel that you are in the terrain around you. They have certain rides that are in the mountains that are all around you in the park. That leads me to this post this week. I love the Disney Mountains, and when I go, I try to make sure we do them all. If we take a look at all of them, they are all well themed, have fun attractions, and are highly sought out among guests. Magic Kingdom has three of them and Animal Kingdom has one of them. We are going to stick to the Disney World Theme Parks. There are a couple more among the Disney landscape, but for this we are going to stick to the four Disney Parks at the Walt Disney World Resort. Now, this is just my opinion and I look forward to seeing how you rank the following mountains at Walt Disney World.

5. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

Located in the Fantasyland area of the park, this coaster is one for all. If your child meets the height requirement, this is a fun one for them too. You make your way through the mountain to the mine with the Seven Dwarfs. For me, this is a fun classic coaster based off of the classic movie Snow White which is why it makes the list. The mountain is well themed to fit the mine and it adds to the fun of fantasy land.

4. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

“Hold onto your hats and glasses!” Coming in at number four is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. It was tough to put this at number four but here we are. The theme of this mountain is based off of Monument Valley and it is well done. Another mining district is the premise of this mountain and it does not disappoint. This is another attraction that is for the entire family that will have you on a runaway train through the mountain and the wildlife around it.

3. Splash Mountain

The number three mountain for me is Splash Mountain. This mountain stands out from afar as you walk into Frontierland. The mountain hosts a water ride and it is one that has some refurbishments coming to it. We will just go off of what it is today. My all time favorite water ride takes you though the mountain on the way to the 52 foot drop. The music is catchy and it is a nice cool down on a hot day in Florida which lands this one at number three.

2. Space Mountain

Ever want to zip through space? Coming in at number two is Space Mountain. This mountain has a unique look and was one of the first coasters in a darkened building. The giant white outside structure has a futuristic space look and catches the eyes of guests. This ride has you zip in the dark and it feels like you are really in space on its dips, twists, and turns. The dark ride and not knowing where you are going is what has the thrill of a lifetime. That is why it lands at number two.

1. Expedition Everest

Number one in my opinion is the best themed mountain in Disney. Expedition Everest is exactly what you think it would be, Mount Everest. The mountain is so lifelike and you feel like you are really there. The que to get on the ride is fun and historical and then you find yourself on the trip of a lifetime as you take a train high into the mountain tops. This ride is so thrilling and well themed and that is why it sits atop the list of Disney Mountains.

When you go to Disney, do you try to hit up the mountains? Many people try to make sure they accomplish the three mountain challenge at Magic Kingdom. That would consist of Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, and Splash Mountain. The feat for a young kid is one you hear at times around the park too! I remember when I was a kid it was a big deal that I finally was able to go on all three and accomplish the feat. The smile on my face was ear to ear and every trip, I try to do all three. Share your favorite mountain below in the comments, I would love to know what you guys think is the best mountain at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Now honorable mention of the day is Mount Gushmore at Blizzard Beach. This is a really fun mountain as well that has the giant water slide, Summit Plummet. The 120 foot water slide with a straight down drop is super fun and if you like water slides, definitely try it! Hope you enjoy conquering the mountains of Disney World and until next time, escape into the magic, no matter how far!

  1. Space Mountain by far is my favorite for theming! It definitely is showing its age with the ricketiness of the ride (coupled with an aging rider!) but there is something about the space theme that I absolutely love. I love the music in the Star Tunnel queue. I love the space craft and astronauts that are visible as you make your ascent. Hearing clips from mission control throughout the queue and the loading area are great. And of course the stars lighting up the “sky” in the otherwise dark ride add to that feeling that you are flying through space.
